The Syrian Future Movement condemns the media reports of November 8, 2025, concerning the arrest of Emirati activist Mr. Jassim Rashid Al Shamsi within Syrian territory without a warrant or due process before a competent judicial authority.
The Syrian Future Movement considers the arrest of any person outside the legal framework to be arbitrary detention and a violation of human rights principles and constitutional guarantees.
The Syrian Future Movement demands that the relevant authorities in the Syrian Arab Republic:
- Immediately disclose the reason for the detention and present any legal document supporting it, or release him immediately if there is no clear legal justification.
- Not extradite Mr. Jassim Rashid Al Shamsi to any country, including the United Arab Emirates.
- Grant him access to a lawyer of his choosing and make every effort to ensure his physical and psychological well-being.
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that:
- Any extradition of opposition figures or political activists to foreign authorities would place Syria in a dangerous legal and moral position and set a precedent that threatens the security of citizens and their fundamental rights.
- If Mr. Jassim’s presence in Syria could provoke tensions or political issues with another country, we propose instead a safe and humanitarian arrangement that would allow him to leave Syria voluntarily for a country of his choice, under the supervision of international bodies or human rights organizations that would ensure his right to asylum or protection is not violated.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the international community, human rights organizations, and legal bodies to immediately follow up on this case and to exert pressure to ensure that the law is applied and human rights are respected in all procedures undertaken.
