International Day for Preventing and Combating All Forms of Transnational Organized Crime

The Syrian Future Movement commemorates the International Day on November 15, designated by the United Nations as the “International Day to Prevent and Combat All Forms of Transnational Organized Crime.” This day aims to raise global awareness of the importance of addressing organized crime networks that threaten international peace and security, undermine the rule of law, and negatively impact societies and national economies.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that Syria, which has suffered for over a decade from the repercussions of internal and regional conflicts caused by the policies of the former regime, cannot remain immune to these phenomena that transcend its borders, whether through drug and arms trafficking, human smuggling, money laundering, or transnational corruption networks. Therefore, active participation in international efforts to combat organized crime is a prerequisite for achieving stability, protecting civil society, and ensuring the state’s recovery.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes several key points on this occasion:

  1. The priority of the rule of law and the necessity of strengthening national legal frameworks that protect society from organized crime and ensure the accountability of those involved, while effectively linking these efforts with international initiatives.
  2. Effective international cooperation through supporting collaboration with UN organizations, particularly the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and exchanging information and expertise with sister and friendly nations to ensure the success of strategies to combat transnational crime.
  3. Empowering civil society and encouraging the role of local organizations in awareness-raising and oversight, and involving youth and academic institutions in designing awareness programs to promote a culture of rejecting crime and respecting the law.
  4. Protecting the national economy by emphasizing that combating organized crime networks is not merely a security issue, but a cornerstone for protecting the national economy from corruption, smuggling, and financial manipulation, and ensuring a sustainable environment for investment and reconstruction.

The Syrian Future Movement calls upon all political and civil forces, the media, and Syrian society to seize this occasion as an opportunity to raise national and international awareness about the challenges posed by organized crime, to work together to mitigate its effects, and to thwart any attempt to exploit it to undermine stability.

On this occasion, the Syrian Future Movement reiterates its support for international efforts to combat transnational crime and reaffirms its commitment to the civil and legal principles that guarantee a secure and stable future for Syria, based on justice, accountability, and respect for the law.
