The Syrian Future Movement followed up on the news published on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, regarding the assault on a traffic policeman by an individual claiming to be a security officer. We commend the official media’s report that the Syrian Ministry of Interior has taken legal action against the assailant.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that any transgression or unlawful claim of a security officer threatens individuals, undermines public trust in state institutions, and weakens the foundations of the modern, civil Syrian state that we strive to build.
The Syrian Future Movement notes that the Syrian Ministry of Defense issued the “Military Code of Conduct and Discipline” charter on Friday, May 30, 2025. This charter defines the standards of discipline for the military, while the Ministry of Interior follows its own regulations for civilian conduct and discipline. Therefore, any investigation or action taken against police officers or traffic personnel is conducted according to the Ministry of Interior’s regulations. The general principles of the military charter may be applied in cases involving security agencies affiliated with the Ministry of Defense or the military structure, should it be officially adopted.
From this standpoint, the Syrian Future Movement calls upon the Syrian transitional government to:
- Ensure a swift and impartial investigation into all incidents involving abuse of power or false claims of authority, in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Ministry of Interior.
- Enhance media transparency by issuing accurate official statements regarding the results of investigations to minimize rumors and misunderstandings.
- Involve independent civil society organizations in monitoring legal proceedings to ensure equal justice.
- Promote a culture of citizenship and the rule of law within society, thereby reducing attempts to infringe upon official powers and protecting the dignity of citizens.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that adherence to the rule of law and accountability, along with respect for the regulations of the Ministry of Interior and the principles of military discipline when officially applied, is the cornerstone for building a modern and stable Syrian state that protects the rights of all citizens and prevents any abuse or exploitation of power in the name of security.
We consider these principles fundamental to Syria’s transitional phase, where the efforts of the state and civil society must be integrated to achieve justice, accountability, and the establishment of trust in state institutions.
