Events in the Marmarita area of western Homs countryside

The Syrian Future Movement is following with grave concern the unfortunate developments in the Marmarita area and the towns of western rural Homs, which have manifested in security tensions and sectarian attacks targeting the region’s residents, resulting in civilian casualties, amidst a clear absence of state institutions responsible for maintaining civil peace and the rule of law.

We in the Syrian Future Movement, based on our national responsibility during this transitional phase following the fall of the despotic regime, affirm the following:

  1. We unequivocally condemn all forms of violence and sectarian violations that threaten the unity of Syrian society and strike at the very foundations of peaceful coexistence.
  2. We categorically reject the transformation of local disputes into armed conflicts, and we warn against attempts to exploit them to reproduce the tools of oppression and division.
  3. We call for an independent and transparent investigation into the recent events and for holding all those involved accountable, regardless of their positions or affiliations.
  4. We appreciate the positions of the religious and civil authorities that called for calm, foremost among them the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Akkar, which expressed its commitment to civil peace.
  5. We urge the transitional government, headed by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, to intensify its efforts in building national state institutions and activating the judicial and security apparatuses to guarantee the protection of citizens and their rights.
  6. We call upon the Syrian people to uphold national unity, reject hate speech and sectarianism, and work together to ensure the success of the transitional justice process and the building of a new Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the success of the transitional phase can only be achieved through consolidating the values of citizenship, restoring the credibility of institutions, and enshrining a culture of dialogue and justice.

We emphasize that what happened in the western Homs countryside should serve as a wake-up call to all national forces, that there is no alternative to a just and inclusive state, and no future in chaos or polarization.
