World Menopause Day

October 18th of each year marks World Menopause Day, recognized by the International Menopause Society (IMS), in collaboration with the World Health Organization, as an annual occasion to raise awareness of this natural stage in a woman’s life and to promote a healthy, human, and social understanding of it. This day serves to remind communities that menopause is neither a disease nor the end of life. Rather, it is a transitional phase that expresses maturity, experience, and balance, during which women continue their active presence in the family and society, enriching public life with their expertise and wisdom.

Based on the values of the Syrian Future Movement, which are based on respect for human beings, empowering women, and protecting their dignity at all stages of life, we emphasize the following:

  1. Consolidating health and social awareness by raising awareness about menopause to correct misconceptions and encourage women to care for their physical and mental health without shame or hesitation, in an environment of respect and understanding.
  2. Human and spiritual appreciation for women. In our deeply rooted Syrian culture, women are honored at all stages of their lives and viewed as the pillars of the family and society. This enables Syrian society to support international awareness of positive women’s rights and consolidate them worldwide, given its sublime humanitarian message. The true Islamic religion has emphasized the great status of mothers and women. The Qur’an states: “And women have rights similar to those against them, according to what is equitable” (Surat Al-Baqarah, verse 228). The Bible states: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all equal” (Galatians 3:28). This affirms the dignity of women and their equality before God. From this perspective, respect for mature women is a deeply rooted religious, moral, and cultural value in the Syrian conscience that must be instilled.
  3. Honoring experience and compassion, as Syrian women, who have known giving, nurturing, work, and challenge, deserve greater support and appreciation at this stage, as symbols of patience, family leadership, and human wisdom.
We must transform the conversation about menopause from a taboo topic to a space of awareness and self-confidence, where bridges of understanding are built between generations.
  4. The Syrian Future Movement views caring for women’s health after middle age as a national responsibility that requires health education and media programs, as well as comprehensive medical care that addresses their needs, supporting their right to a dignified and balanced life.

As the Syrian Future Movement joins the world in commemorating this day, it affirms its commitment to spreading awareness, promoting a culture of respect, and empowering Syrian women so that they may remain, as they have always been, the beating heart of society and the voice of wisdom in every home. On this occasion, we salute every Syrian woman who carries love and giving in her heart despite the circumstances, and every family that recognizes that respecting women at all stages of their lives is a moral, humanitarian, and religious duty.
