Violations in Hasakah and the arrest of Iman Al-Wardi

The Syrian Future Movement is following with deep concern reports of human rights violations in Hasakah Governorate. Multiple sources, including family testimonies and activists, documented the arrest of Ms. Iman al-Wardi, a cancer patient, along with her 13-year-old son, Amir, and her brother, Khader al-Wardi, from her home in Hasakah on August 30, 2025, during a large-scale security campaign carried out by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). According to reports, Iman was shot in the foot during the arrest, and her fate and that of her companions remains unknown to this day.

Information indicates that the campaign, according to the SDF’s claims, targeted ISIS cells. However, it also included the arrest of five women and six children, including Iman and her child, in operations that we believe amount to arbitrary.

The Syrian Future Movement considers the targeting and injury of a cancer patient receiving treatment in Damascus, and the arrest of her child and brother, to be a flagrant violation of human rights and reflects the continued policies of impunity that threaten stability in the region.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for:

  1. The immediate release of Iman al-Wardi, her child Amir, and her brother Khader al-Wardi, with immediate medical care due to her critical health condition.
  2. A transparent and independent investigation into the arrest campaign carried out by the SDF, with the participation of international observers to ensure impartiality and uncover the circumstances of the targeting of civilians.
  3. Protecting the rights of civilians in areas controlled by the SDF and halting arbitrary arrests that fuel tribal and societal tensions.
  4. Supporting the families of the victims by providing compensation and legal and psychological assistance to those affected by this campaign.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms its commitment to building a just Syria that respects the dignity of all its citizens without discrimination. We therefore call on international human rights organizations and the Syrian government to urgently intervene to ensure the release of detainees, hold those responsible for these violations accountable, and work to end the cycle of violence and impunity.
