International Equal Pay Day

The Syrian Future Movement commemorates International Equal Pay Day, which falls on September 18th of each year. This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2019 to highlight the persistent wage gap between women and men and to advocate for gender economic justice in the labor market.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that this day comes at a time when women around the world, including in Syria, continue to face structural challenges that prevent them from receiving fair wages for their work, despite their competence and active contribution in various economic, educational, health, and administrative sectors.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that equal pay is a pillar of social justice and sustainable development, and a prerequisite for building a balanced national economy. It also emphasizes the need to review Syrian economic policies and legislation to ensure equal opportunities between women and men, and to implement the principle of “equal pay for work of equal value” in both the public and private sectors.

The Syrian Future Movement calls on government and private institutions to adopt transparent policies regarding employment and compensation, conduct periodic assessments of the wage gap, and publish their results to the public. It also encourages professional unions and civil society organizations to launch awareness and training campaigns aimed at empowering women economically and promoting a culture of equality in the workplace. It emphasizes the importance of emphasizing that women’s economic empowerment is an integral part of a comprehensive national project that seeks to build a modern, just Syria based on equal citizenship.

The Syrian Future Movement sees this day as an opportunity to renew its commitment to issues of justice and equality, and believes that building the future of Syria begins with respect for human beings, empowering them, and guaranteeing their rights without discrimination.
The Syria we aspire to is a country of justice, equality, and human dignity.
