International Day of Democracy

On the International Day of Democracy, celebrated annually on September 15, the Syrian Future Movement reaffirms its deep and unwavering commitment to the principles of freedom, equality, and popular participation in decision-making. These principles are indispensable foundations for building the future Syria, the Syria of our dreams: a civil, participatory, pluralistic state that respects human rights and protects the dignity of its citizens.

The Syrian Future Movement considers this day a moment to reflect on our political and social reality and to assess our progress in consolidating the values of democracy, given the suffering and sacrifices our people have endured and the grave challenges they have faced over the years of conflict and division.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that democracy is not a political luxury, but rather a national necessity for achieving sustainable peace, social justice, and national unity.

As part of its efforts to present a renewed national vision, the Syrian Future Movement is proud to have launched an innovative intellectual and political vision during the national workshop held in Damascus on February 21, 2025. The workshop brought together a select group of Syrians from various intellectual backgrounds and geographic regions, under the umbrella of responsible national dialogue at the Inana Hotel. This workshop resulted in the crystallization of the concept of “Shuracracy,” a vision that combines the spirit of Shura, derived from our Islamic and Arab heritage, with the mechanisms of modern democracy based on pluralism, the peaceful transfer of power, and respect for individual and collective rights. We believe that “Shuracracy” is not a linguistic combination, but rather an integrated political project that seeks to build a governance model that takes into account the unique characteristics of Syrian society and ensures the participation of all its components in shaping national decisions, free from exclusion or domination. The Syrian Future Movement believes that the shuracracy model can be the cornerstone for building a strong, independent, and just state that respects its cultural and religious diversity and is based on the free will of its people. From this standpoint, we call on all national forces, both political and civil, to engage in a serious discussion about this vision and work to develop and implement it in a way that serves the supreme interests of Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that democracy is not an unattainable goal, but rather a path to which we must all commit, with all the patience, sacrifices, and dialogue it requires. We will continue to work tirelessly to consolidate these values and build a homeland worthy of the sacrifices of its people, granting them the full right to self-determination and shape their future.
