The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the Human Rights Watch report issued on September 16, 2025, documenting grave violations committed by the Israeli occupation authorities in villages in southern Syria occupied since December 2024. It describes these violations as potentially war crimes under international humanitarian law.
The Syrian Future Movement believes this report constitutes an important step toward uncovering the truth about what is happening in the occupied Syrian territories and provides a legal and moral basis upon which to build in international forums to hold those responsible for these violations accountable and ensure the rights of affected Syrian civilians.
While affirming its firm position rejecting any form of occupation or the imposition of a fait accompli by force, the Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the following:
- Full welcome of the report and appreciation of Human Rights Watch’s efforts in documenting violations, and considers it a reference document that should be used in relevant diplomatic and human rights processes.
- Calling on official Syrian authorities, the national opposition, and civil society to coordinate efforts to utilize this report as part of the international call to end the Israeli occupation of Syrian territory and hold those responsible for violations accountable.
- Calling on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities regarding the situation in southern Syria and to halt the policy of selectivity in the application of international law.
- Emphasizing the unity and full sovereignty of Syrian territory, and rejecting any attempts to change the demographic or geographic character of the occupied area.
- Supporting the right of residents to return to their villages and properties, and ensuring their compensation for the damages they have suffered as a result of these violations.
The Syrian Future Movement views this report as an opportunity to strengthen Syria’s presence in the international arena and to affirm that the issue of occupied southern Syria is a national issue par excellence, requiring the highest levels of political, diplomatic, and legal coordination to ensure the defense of Syrians’ rights and the preservation of their dignity.
