Decisions of the Council of the League of Arab States on Syria and the occupied Golan

The Syrian Future Movement welcomes the decisions issued by the Council of the League of Arab States at its meeting held on Friday, September 5, 2025, which reaffirmed support for Syria’s unity and sovereignty, and its inalienable right to recover the occupied Syrian Golan Heights to the borders of June 4, 1967, in accordance with relevant international legitimacy resolutions, most notably UN Security Council Resolution 497 of 1981.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the Arab position rejecting the repeated Israeli incursions into Syrian territory, particularly in southern Syria, which represent a clear violation of the Disengagement Agreement signed on May 31, 1974, and a breach of the UN Charter and the principles of international law. We also affirm that these violations, including attacks on civilians and the plundering of natural resources, require a firm international stance that puts an end to the policy of impunity.

The Syrian Future Movement affirms that supporting the unity of Syria and rejecting partition plans or the imposition of a fait accompli, as stated in the Council’s final statement, is a positive step in the interest of the Syrian people and their aspirations for building a stable civil state based on the rule of law and equal citizenship, free from tyranny and subordination.

In this context, the Syrian Future Movement calls for translating these positions into practical measures, including:

  • Strengthening humanitarian and relief support for Syrians at home and abroad, ensuring the alleviation of civilian suffering.
  • Supporting efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution in accordance with UN Resolution 2254, ensuring a genuine political transition.
  • Rejecting any international recognition of the Israeli occupation’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights and confronting attempts to legitimize it, especially after the US administration’s announcement on March 25, 2019, recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over it, a flagrant violation of international law.

The Syrian Future Movement, while commending this responsible Arab approach, affirms that the Syrian issue is inseparable from the issues of the nation as a whole, and that the restoration of national rights can only be achieved through a free popular will, a unified Arab stance, and an international community committed to the principles of justice and international legitimacy.
