With great interest and appreciation, the Syrian Future Movement followed the positions issued by the Lebanese Progressive Socialist Party, led by Lebanese national leader Walid Jumblatt, regarding the recent developments in the Syrian province of Sweida, which is witnessing a peaceful popular movement that reflects the aspirations of its people for dignity, justice, and a decent life.
While the Movement appreciates this responsible statement, it sees it as a sincere expression of the deep historical ties between the Syrian and Lebanese peoples, and of the commitment of the national forces in Lebanon to the unity of Syria and the safety of its people, far removed from attempts at distortion or narrow political exploitation.
Accordingly, the Syrian Future Movement:
- Welcomes the positions supporting the rights of Syrians to peaceful expression and demands for reform.
- Emphasizes the importance of Arab solidarity in the face of attempts at division and strife, and calls for unified efforts to support the aspirations of the Syrian people to build a civil, democratic state.
- Emphasizes its rejection of any foreign interference that seeks to exploit the popular movement or use it for suspicious agendas.
- It calls for the protection of civil peace in Sweida and all other Syrian regions, and for opening channels for comprehensive national dialogue that ensures the participation of all Syrian components in shaping the country’s future.
The Syrian Future Movement expresses its deep appreciation for every free voice that stands with the Syrian people in their ordeal, and renews its commitment to the principles of the Syrian revolution: freedom, dignity, and justice.
