Today, the Syrian Democratic Forum addresses one of the most heinous crimes committed by the criminal Assad regime against our people: the chemical massacre that targeted Eastern Ghouta and other Syrian towns. Thousands of innocent civilians were treacherously killed with toxic gases, a crime unparalleled in modern history.
The Syrian Democratic Forum considers this crime an open wound in the conscience of humanity and a disgrace to the international community, which has not fully assumed its responsibilities in holding the perpetrators accountable and preventing the recurrence of such violations.
The continued absence of justice deepens the victims’ pain and makes the future more vulnerable to the recurrence of such crimes.
The Syrian Democratic Forum renews its pledge to the martyrs of the massacre and their families that their cause will not be forgotten, and that the blood of innocents will remain a beacon reminding Syrians and the world of the importance of holding criminals accountable and adhering to justice, freedom, and the human right to a dignified life.
The Syrian Democratic Forum affirms that a just political solution in Syria cannot be achieved without a clear recognition of the crimes committed, most notably the use of chemical weapons, and ensuring that all those responsible are brought to justice before international courts. The Syrian Democratic Forum calls on all national and democratic forces, along with the international community, to join forces to build a new Syria free of tyranny and killing, based on the values of freedom, dignity, and equal citizenship. A Syria that preserves the dignity of its people and prevents the recurrence of tragedies.
