Rainmaking Project in the Yarmouk River Basin

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the joint announcement issued on Monday, August 5, 2025, regarding the launch of a rain-making project in the Yarmouk River Basin. This announcement followed the second meeting of the Syrian-Jordanian Joint Technical Committee for Water, held in Damascus, chaired by Hisham al-Haisa (Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority) and Osama Abu Zaid (Deputy Minister of Water Resources).

The Syrian Future Movement views this cooperation, which transcends geographical boundaries, as an opportunity to establish a new political mindset, one that believes that water is not a negotiable matter, but rather an existential link, embodying Quranic and Biblical values such as “And We made from water every living thing” and “We gave them a drink of the river of life freely” (Revelation 1:1).

The Syrian Future Movement believes that choosing this date, at the height of summer and drought, reflects a growing awareness of the magnitude of the climate challenge and urges us to emphasize that rain-making is not merely a technical solution, but rather an expression of moral responsibility and political will to revive the land and humanity.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for the development of a charter for environmental justice in the Levant, based on the values of solidarity and transparency, so that water becomes a shared resource managed rationally and collaboratively, not through a closed-minded, self-interested mindset.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that as Syria seeks to redefine itself, environmental projects that transcend divisions can become points of convergence, revitalizing the collective spirit and giving new meaning to sovereignty stemming from the service of both humanity and nature, rather than from exclusivity and control.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for policies to be built on ethics, and for the land to be watered with the water of participation, not monopoly. Freedom cannot bear fruit without justice, and justice cannot flourish without a nurturing environment.
