The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the statements issued by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on July 11, 2025, in which he affirmed the Lebanese Republic’s commitment to good relations with Syria, based on mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs.
The Syrian Future Movement welcomes these statements, viewing them as a responsible approach based on sovereignty and stable regional partnerships. It also appreciates the President’s emphasis on the authority of Lebanon’s constitutional institutions, particularly with regard to decisions on war and peace and the restriction of arms to the state, which constitutes an important pillar for supporting the logic of legitimacy and good governance in the region.
In the context of these positive trends, the Syrian Future Movement calls on the relevant Lebanese authorities to address the issue of Syrian detainees in Lebanese prisons within a legal and humanitarian framework that respects their dignity and fundamental rights, based on non-politicization and respect for international human rights treaties.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that any progress in bilateral relations cannot be achieved without taking into account the humanitarian and legal aspects of Syrian citizens residing or detained in Lebanon. This would enhance the climate of trust and protect fraternal relations from tension or misunderstanding.
The Syrian Future Movement expresses its readiness to cooperate with relevant Syrian, Lebanese, and international parties to establish coordination mechanisms that ensure the integrity of procedures and the achievement of justice in accordance with the law, free from any narrow calculations or arbitrary practices.
The Syrian Future Movement sees this stage as a historic opportunity to rebuild Syrian-Lebanese relations on the basis of mutual sovereignty, mutual respect, and moral and humanitarian commitment to peoples. It hopes that these steps will be a prelude to a more stable and just regional path.
