On the tripartite meeting in Amman and the implementation of the Sweida agreement

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the importance of the tripartite meeting between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani, his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, and US Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack on July 19, 2025. This meeting marked a significant diplomatic milestone in consolidating the ceasefire agreement in As-Suwayda Governorate and extending the rule of law throughout Syria. It also implicitly rejected Sheikh al-Hajri’s call to open a border crossing with Jordan.

The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the understandings that resulted from this meeting, particularly the agreement on practical steps aimed at protecting civilians, releasing detainees, creating an environment for community reconciliation, and delivering humanitarian aid. This will enhance the chances of civil peace and lay the foundations for consolidating security and stability in As-Suwayda and southern Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the support of Jordan and the United States for consolidating the agreement and their affirmation of Syrian territorial integrity represents a shift in the international and regional approach to the Syrian issue, moving away from interventionist and confrontational approaches and toward a consensus on the priority of protecting Syrians and preserving the country’s unity. In this context

, the Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the following:

  • The necessity of involving local civil and social actors in Sweida in the implementation process of the agreement, ensuring true societal legitimacy and strengthening trust between the state and society.
  • The importance of these measures being accompanied by transparent mechanisms for accountability for violations, free from political selectivity and consolidating the principle of the rule of law, not its discretion.
  • This diplomatic moment must be used to activate constitutional reform processes and initiate a comprehensive national dialogue that redefines the Syrian social contract on the basis of pluralism and equal citizenship.

The Syrian Future Movement is closely monitoring these developments, reaffirming its commitment to working to build a unified, civil, and pluralistic Syrian state based on respect for human dignity, political participation, and the rule of law, and free from violence, exclusion, and identity-based isolation.
