On the final report of the Commission of Inquiry into the events on the Syrian coast

The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the receipt by President Ahmad al-Sharaa of the final report of the Independent Investigation Commission into the events on the Syrian coast that occurred on March 6. It commends this step as a fundamental shift toward establishing a culture of accountability and justice in the new Syrian state.

The Syrian Future Movement considers the formation of the independent commission and the extension of its work for an additional period to be evidence of an emerging political will to move beyond the era of impunity and marginalization of victims, a long-awaited step.

Based on the damning figures contained in the Syrian Network for Human Rights report, which exceeded 1,600 civilian and disarmed combatant martyrs, including children and medical personnel, we affirm that these facts should not be relegated to the archive of reports. Rather, the doors to justice, fairness, and the prosecution of those responsible for these violations must be opened, regardless of their background or political, security, or social positions.

While we commend the Presidency of the Republic’s indication of the importance of presenting the report’s findings in a public press conference, we demand:

  1. Publish the full report, including its names and recommendations, for public comment.
  2. Activate an independent civilian judiciary to prosecute those involved without political interference.
  3. Establish a national human rights oversight mechanism to ensure fair proceedings, in coordination with the United Nations.
  4. Include the rights of victims and their families in any future reconciliation or reform process.
  5. Reject any political or security justification for the abuses committed against unarmed civilians.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that the path to a just and institutional Syria can only be achieved through truth, and we will remain loyal to this path until our people achieve their goal of freedom and dignity together.
