The Syrian Future Movement, on this day—April 24th—which the world observes as the *International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2018, reaffirms its deep commitment to the principles of international cooperation and peaceful solutions as the path to ending the suffering of the Syrian people and building a future that guarantees human dignity and safeguards the rights of future generations.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the successive crises that have struck Syria—chief among them the devastating war that has drained the country for over a decade—are a result of the absence of just dialogue and the prioritization of narrow interests, which only lead to further ruin. From this standpoint, we believe that multilateralism and diplomacy represent the only option to achieve national reconciliation, promote sustainable development, and establish security and stability—based on the three principles upon which the United Nations is built: peace, sustainable development, and human rights.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that Syria today is in dire need of strengthened international cooperation based on respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as support for reconstruction efforts that prioritize the rights of victims, ensure justice during the transition from conflict to a state governed by law and institutions. Achieving lasting peace also requires serious dialogue among all Syrian parties with effective UN support, away from foreign interventions that further complicate the scene and deepen divisions.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the international community to assume its moral responsibility toward the Syrian people by supporting comprehensive diplomatic pathways that foster Syria’s stability, prevent the return of systematic human rights violations entrenched by the former regime, ensure the return of displaced persons and refugees, and revive the economy through fair development projects.
The Syrian Future Movement appeals to all Syrians—leaders, groups, components, movements, parties, sects, and ethnicities—to abandon the logic of power monopolization, prioritize the supreme national interest, and seriously engage in the success of state-building that institutionalizes pluralism and ensures the participation of all components of the people.
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the new Syrian leadership to draw from the values of this day by promoting a culture of dialogue and cooperation with the international community, and adopting a diplomatic approach that places the interests of the Syrian people above all else. Building the Syria of the future requires a sincere political will that works to achieve just peace, establish social justice, and guarantee human rights—ensuring the Syrians’ right to self-determination without tutelage.
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that peace is not merely the absence of war but a process of institutional, legal, and social construction that upholds justice, protects freedoms, and guarantees Syrians the right to self-determination without guardianship. We believe this can only be achieved through genuine international solidarity and internal will that understands the future can only be built on the foundations of cooperation and respect for the will of the people.
