the Inclusion of Damascus University in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings

The Syrian Future Movement congratulates Damascus University on its historic achievement of being included for the first time in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings. This accomplishment represents a bright step forward in the journey of higher education in Syria, as Damascus University has become the first Syrian university to meet the scientific and educational standards required for this prestigious global ranking.

The Syrian Future Movement believes that this achievement reflects the significant efforts made by Damascus University in advancing higher education and scientific research, and it affirms its ability to compete on the international academic stage. The university was ranked within the +601 category among 853 of the best universities and research centers in Asia, out of more than 12,000 universities and research centers across the continent, thereby strengthening Syria’s scientific and academic standing.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the importance of this accomplishment as a first step toward achieving a comprehensive vision for the development of higher education in Syria, making it a fundamental driver of national renaissance. Education is the cornerstone of building a progressive and prosperous society and is the path toward achieving sustainable development and innovation across various fields.

The Syrian Future Movement calls for increased investment in education and scientific research, and for providing the necessary resources to support Syrian universities and enable them to achieve further accomplishments at the international level. It also stresses the need for cooperation between Syrian educational and research institutions and their counterparts in developed countries, to exchange expertise and knowledge, and to strengthen academic partnerships that contribute to elevating the level of education and research.

The Syrian Future Movement considers Damascus University’s inclusion in the Asia University Rankings as evidence of Syria’s significant potential in the field of higher education. It is a call for all concerned parties to work together to achieve greater progress and excellence.

The Syrian Future Movement also recalls its detailed stance outlined in a previous article by the Movement’s Scientific Office titled “Damascus University: A Great History and a Painful Reality.” In that article, it emphasized the need to depoliticize education, to remove the control of security agencies over universities, and to manage universities and research centers in an academic and scientific manner. It also called for increased spending on scientific research, preserving and nurturing Syrian talents and intellectuals, creating an environment that encourages their return, developing the University Organization Law, granting universities financial and administrative independence, appreciating professors, and adopting clear, objective, and competency-based standards for their promotion.
