From the memory of the Syrian revolution: 29/08/2011

On this day in 2011: Syrian opposition members announced the formation of the Syrian National Council in a press conference in Ankara, led by prominent opposition figure Burhan Ghalioun and 94 other leading Syrian opposition figures from both inside and outside the country. A statement read at the conference on behalf of the Syrian revolution youth inside the country confirmed the selection of these figures to lead the popular movement and commit to the revolution’s primary goal of overthrowing Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The statement also called on the so-called ‘silent majority’ to take action and join the revolution
