Congratulations to the Kingdom of Morocco for presiding over the United Nations Human Rights Council.

On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, the representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations in Geneva won the presidency of the Human Rights Council, a body tasked with promoting and protecting these rights globally. Ambassador Omar Zniber secured 30 votes from the 47 council members, compared to 17 votes for the other candidate.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) extends its congratulations to the Kingdom of Morocco, including its King, Crown Prince, government, and people, on this significant official, legal, and global success.

The Syrian Future Movement sends its best wishes to Ambassador Mr. Omar Zniber on his election as the President of the Human Rights Council, following a rare secret ballot.

The Syrian Future Movement views Morocco’s election to this vital and important position as a strong indication from the international community of the importance and effectiveness of Morocco’s successful steps in key human rights issues such as interfaith dialogue, tolerance, combating racial hatred, and the rights of migrants and refugees, among others.

The Syrian Future Movement encourages Morocco, in light of its success in leading the Human Rights Council, to undertake practical steps towards documenting and realizing human rights in the Middle East in general, and Syria in particular.
