On the confiscation of flags bearing the image of President Ahmed al-Sharaa
The Syrian Future Movement has been following recent social media posts showing images from Damascus, where the Syrian flag was raised after the fall of the previous regime, bearing the image of the new president, Ahmed Shar’a, along with the phrase “We love you in God’s name.”
The Syrian Future Movement firmly rejects such actions, which remind us of the policies of the defunct regime and tie Syrians to individuals instead of the state and the nation!
The Syrian Future Movement commends the action taken by the General Security in Syria, which confiscated these flags and warned vendors against selling them, according to the local news website “Sawt Al-Asima.”
The Syrian Future Movement calls on the Syrian government to issue an official statement clarifying how such individual or institutional actions should be handled, to prevent any attempts to revive the mindset of the former regime, which brought long-lasting suffering to the Syrian people.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the true link between the people and leadership is built on respect for the state, not individuals. Therefore, we call for increased awareness of the importance of connecting citizens to the state in a way that avoids both excessive glorification and undue belittlement.
