Regarding the ruling issued by the International Criminal Court against Netanyahu and Gallant
The International Criminal Court (ICC) recently issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. The court accuses Netanyahu and Gallant of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, including using starvation as a weapon of war, murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts!
These accusations are based on events that occurred between October 8, 2023, and May 20, 2024, during which Netanyahu and Gallant are believed to have overseen attacks targeting civilians in Gaza. These attacks caused significant suffering among the civilian population due to shortages of food, water, medicine, and medical supplies.
The Syrian Future Movement, while considering this decision an important step toward achieving international justice, also raises questions about how these warrants will be executed given the political and diplomatic complexities surrounding Israel.
The Syrian Future Movement, in light of the recent developments regarding the decisions of the International Criminal Court (ICC), wishes to draw attention to the clear inconsistency in the court’s handling of crimes committed in various conflict zones! While the ICC has issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, it has taken no similar action against Syrian regime leader Bashar al-Assad or the warlords among his military and intelligence officers, despite clear evidence of crimes far more atrocious than those attributed to Netanyahu in Palestine!
The Syrian Future Movement considers the International Criminal Court’s disregard for the horrific crimes committed by the Assad regime—including the use of chemical weapons, systematic torture, and mass killings—a serious cause for questioning the court’s credibility and impartiality.
The Syrian Future Movement believes that this disregard can only be interpreted as clear politicization of the court’s decisions, undermining confidence in the international judicial system and giving the impression that international justice is applied selectively, and perhaps with political bias.
The Syrian Future Movement demands that the International Criminal Court take a firm legal stance on the crimes committed in Syria and ensure that all those responsible for these crimes are held accountable, regardless of their positions or political affiliations.
The Syrian Future Movement considers the legal excuses for not issuing a decision against Bashar al-Assad as a deficiency that must be addressed in order to achieve justice, which can only be realized when all perpetrators of crimes are held accountable for their actions.
The Syrian Future Movement calls for the International Criminal Court to be a model of justice and integrity in the world.
