Regarding the Formation and Selection of the President of the Syrian Opposition Government
Syrian Future Movement …
It warns against the Syrian opposition’s step of forming a temporary government that will claim control over the so-called liberated territories for the following reasons:
1- The migration it causes— from conflict areas to the so-called liberated lands — will negatively affect our revolution through:
- A. Emptying cities and villages of their residents, which may facilitate the regime’s army in deploying its elements in those territories and concentrating them there.
- B. Imposing additional burdens on the Syrian opposition by having to secure a decent living for the migrants.
-C. The regime committing mass massacres and executions by targeting gathering sites of the migrants. - D. Facilitating the regime’s goal of isolating regions from each other and starting to practice a scorched earth policy to achieve its objective of dividing the country into federations or similar.
2- The Syrian Future Movement fears that the formation of a temporary government will take on a resemblance to Gaza, Palestine; thus, the opposition’s government could mirror Hamas’s Islamic government in Palestinian Gaza. This poses a danger by:
- A. Diluting our Syrian revolution by misleading people and the international community into thinking that our problem has ended and our crisis has been resolved.
- B. Diverting the Syrian opposition’s attention to consolidating its control over the liberated parts while neglecting the needs of the rebels in the confrontation areas.
- C. If the temporary government fails to manage the liberated territories, it will give the world the impression that it will certainly fail if it is entrusted with the management of the entire country; thus, the option of retaining the Assad regime will only be presented.
