Podcast of SFM (32): Constitution from the SFM’s Perspective (1)
- The constitution is a social contract between the ruler and the ruled. It guarantees the latter’s rights, protects their freedom and dignity, ensures their participation in decision-making, limits the ruler’s authority, and makes them accountable to the people.
- . It is a guarantee of the unity of the land and the people, the preservation of diversity and pluralism, and the establishment of a spirit of tolerance in society.
- The constitution must be the product of a free and genuinely Syrian and national popular will to gain its true authoritative legitimacy.
- We caution against tampering with the constitution and emphasize the need to prevent any authority from changing or interpreting it in ways that contradict the agreed-upon contract of the Syrian people.
- We reject any constitution that does not reflect genuine popular will.
- The constitution must result from an inclusive and transparent national dialogue involving representatives of the people from inside and outside the country, from various spectra, components, and regions.
