On October 14, 1986, the Arab League Council met in the Tunisian capital and issued its decision to establish the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs.

Given the importance of this decision, which places the Arab world alongside other global nations in addressing the environmental problems threatening our planet, October 14 was designated as Arab Environment Day.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) considers the commemoration of this day a Syrian connection to the Arab world, affirming that Syria is an integral part of the Arab League.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) emphasizes the need to raise awareness of the environmental challenges and issues facing the region, especially in Syria after years of war.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) warns of increasing drought severity, forest fires, and sand dune encroachment on agricultural lands.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) calls for addressing human-induced causes that greatly exacerbate the desertification problem, such as population growth, harmful environmental practices like overgrazing, deforestation, mining activities, altering water courses, and filling or drying up water bodies.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) considers water pollution to be one of the most dangerous environmental problems, with its causes including the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides that negatively affect water sources.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) aims to stop directing sewage and harmful chemical waste in large cities towards natural water sources like rivers and seas, which contributes to the spread of deadly diseases and epidemics that threaten our people with the dangers of death or famine.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) works to raise awareness of the effects of thermal pollution, which leads to sudden temperature changes and alters oxygen levels, disrupting ecosystems.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) warns of ocean acidification, which increases the concentration of carbon dioxide, damaging plankton and shellfish, and causing fragility in their shells.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) also warns of soil pollution, which increases its salinity and dryness, destroying its fertility and rendering the land unsuitable for agriculture or supporting beneficial living organisms.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) considers ecological imbalance a global issue, especially for industrialized countries.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) warns of rising temperatures and severe heat waves that lead to water scarcity and drought, posing a continuous threat to food and water security.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) calls for addressing the lack of environmental awareness, which leads to environmental exploitation and damage, such as plastic pollution, forest fires, illegal groundwater wells, and unregulated urban expansion.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) supports Arab environmental initiatives that bring hope for addressing environmental issues in Syria.

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) encourages the construction of “eco-friendly” clean cities and calls for learning from Arab experiences, such as Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and applying them in Syria.
