On this day in 2011: The consultative meeting of the Syrian opposition began in Istanbul with the participation of 60 activists representing Syrian groups in exile, aiming to launch the “Syrian National Council” to coordinate activities among the various Syrian opposition factions to overthrow the Assad regime.
