The Honorable Number (19), Minister of Agriculture and Governor of Hama, and Minister of Defense, “As’ad Mustafa”.

  • Born in 1947 in the village of Hayalin in the western countryside of Hama.
  • Holds a degree in Arabic language.
  • Worked as a supervisor in one of the schools in Saqilbiya in Hama.
  • Became a member of the People’s Assembly for his region.
  • Served as the Governor of Hama between 1985 and 1992.
  • Held the position of Syrian Minister of Agriculture between 1992 and 2000.
  • After completing his ministerial role, he moved to work as an advisor to the Kuwaiti Minister of Agriculture in the Arab Fund for Economic Development in Kuwait.
  • Announced his defection from the Syrian regime through a television interview broadcasted on November 11, 2011.
  • Joined the Syrian National Council on November 6, 2012.
  • In December 2012, announced from Amman the establishment of the “Free National Gathering of Employees in Syrian State Institutions”.
  • His name was proposed in 2013 as a candidate for the presidency of the “Interim Government”.
  • Appointed as Minister of Defense in the Syrian Interim Government.
  • Resigned on February 14, 2014, due to difficulties in securing sufficient support for the Free Syrian Army within Syria, according to his statement.
  • Joined the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces within the faction bloc as a representative of the Army of Glory, with his membership extending between September 2017 and June 2020.
  • His Excellency still enjoys the love and respect of all Syrians at home and abroad through his conciliatory and successful personality, known for his calm and sharp insight.
