For the second consecutive day, the Syrian regime forces continue to bomb cities and towns in northwestern Syria, blatantly disregarding all treaties, agreements, and international obligations.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the bombardment and air strikes resulted in the death, injury, and displacement of civilians in no less than 50 villages, towns, and populated cities, including the city of Idlib, Ariha, Jisr al-Shughour, among others.
As of October 6, the death toll reached at least 16 people, including five women and two children, and another 81 were injured, including 21 women and 17 children, according to local health organizations. Meanwhile, the death toll on Friday alone was 11, with over 80 injuries.
Vital facilities were also affected by this unprecedented military escalation, including five schools, a power generation station, offices of two non-governmental organizations, and an ambulance and fire department in the city of Ariha south of Idlib.
The bombings also resulted in the cancellation of school today and Friday prayers in several mosques.
Non-governmental organizations announced the suspension of their activities in their field offices in the Idlib region.
The number of displaced persons reached approximately 1,000 families from the targeted areas.
The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) reminds the international community of the need to bear its responsibilities and calls on everyone to fully comply with what was previously ratified in 2017 during the Astana talks, which called for the formation of 4 “de-escalation zones” in areas not controlled by Syrian regime forces.
The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) calls on the Turkish guarantor to play a real role and communicate with the Russians to urge them to comply with the memorandum of understanding signed in September 2018, which aims to strengthen the ceasefire.
The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) holds the Syrian regime and Russia responsible for the recent massacres and the resulting destruction, killing, and displacement.
The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) sees in the recent escalation the Syrian regime’s intention to expand, seize new territories, and reshape the map to align with its repeated calls to reclaim lands liberated by the rebels from its grip! It also warns of signs of handing the region over to the Syrian regime, especially in this difficult stage for the Russians and their quagmire in Ukraine.
The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) warns that continued bombing of towns and villages in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo will increase the number of displaced people, meaning that Turkey will be inundated with a new wave of refugees heading to Europe.
The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) offers its condolences to its people and calls on them to be patient and steadfast, as all the current international variables (especially in Palestine) indicate that justice will eventually prevail, even if it takes time. The oppressor might think they’ve escaped, believing in their stability and safety!”
