Regarding the incidents of the Lebanese authorities handing over Syrian citizens to the Syrian regime

The Syrian Future Movement (SFM) expresses gratitude to the Lebanese Republic, both the state and its people, for hosting the Syrian population on Lebanese territory, and for protecting them from the repercussions of the war in Syria, both in terms of security and economically. The SFM also acknowledges the impact of the Syrian presence on Lebanese land and its various consequences. However, the SFM views the repeated incidents of the Lebanese General Security handing over Syrian residents to the Syrian regime as damaging to Lebanon’s civilizational and historical reputation as a brotherly country closely linked to the Syrian Arab Republic.

The Syrian Future Movement condemns Lebanon’s handover of Syrian detainees who have served their sentences, and their subsequent detention by the Syrian regime’s authorities, disregarding warnings from human rights and international institutions and considering Syria an unsafe country!

The SFM endorses and supports the statement by the “Unrestricted Organization” issued on 26/1/2024, Number 2, calling for the halt of the extradition of Syrian citizen “Yasin Mohammad Marwan Al-Atar,” originally from Homs – Qusayr area. The SFM highlights the potential dangers this unjust and illegal measure poses, directly threatening his life and possibly subjecting him to torture in Syrian regime prisons, or even to execution and physical elimination.

The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the handover of Syrian residents in Lebanon to the Syrian regime is a clear violation of international and United Nations human rights laws and treaties. This action disregards the Lebanese state’s obligations and commitments to implement these laws and treaties, potentially exposing it to subsequent legal accountability.

The SFM calls upon the Lebanese state and its institutions, notably the Lebanese Army represented by General Joseph Aoun, the Ministry of Interior and Lebanese Security Forces, all Lebanese sovereign forces striving to establish the concept of the state, represented by the leader of the Lebanese Forces, Mr. Samir Geagea, Mr. Walid Jumblatt, former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Prime Minister Saad Hariri, head of the Lebanese Future Movement, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, President Nabih Berri, and the Lebanese Dar al-Fatwa, represented by the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, to halt the extradition of the Syrian citizen Mr. “Yasin Al-Atar.” This response to our call would prevent the future extradition of any Syrian citizen to the Syrian regime, which threatens their lives, existence, stability, and security.

The Syrian Future Movement urges all Lebanese entities, associations, political and religious elites, and national figures to firmly and clearly stand against the extradition of Mr. “Yasin Al-Atar,” ensuring the proper and lawful presence of all Syrians in Lebanon.
