The world celebrates International Medical Physics Day on November 7th, an international occasion that underscores the intrinsic link between scientific progress and the preservation of human life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We in the Syrian Future Movement see this day as an important opportunity to highlight a vital scientific and applied sector that has been marginalized and devastated in our country due to years of conflict. We emphasize that the transition to a future Syria necessitates building a comprehensive national strategy for localizing the exact sciences and supporting specialized expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that this occasion comes amidst a tragic health and academic reality in Syria, documented by indicators for 2026:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brain Drain and Emigration of Skilled Professionals: Estimated data for 2026 indicates that Syria has lost more than 70% of its specialized medical and academic personnel (including medical physicists, radiology technicians, and bioengineers) due to forced migration and security persecution, creating a massive knowledge gap in Syrian hospitals and universities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Collapse of Diagnostic and Treatment Infrastructure: The health sector’s infrastructure has suffered widespread structural destruction; The estimated cost of rehabilitating and upgrading damaged diagnostic medical equipment and oncology departments exceeds $12 billion. Meanwhile, all Syrian regions suffer from a severe shortage of MRI machines and linear accelerators due to inadequate maintenance and the lack of stable power grids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on its national and civilizational vision for building a state of institutions, the Syrian Future Movement proposes the following as a roadmap for the transitional phase:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Restructuring Academic and Technical Education: We call for raising the efficiency and modernizing the curricula in the faculties of science, engineering, and medicine, and establishing specialized and independent postgraduate programs in medical physics in cooperation with international organizations, to link Syrian education with the global technological revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A National Program to Attract Syrian Minds: We call for the establishment of a national civil body dedicated to building bridges of communication with expatriate scientists and experts, and providing institutional and security incentives and guarantees to encourage them to transfer knowledge and oversee the operation of modern medical facilities within the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Participatory Governance of the Health Technology Sector: We propose establishing a “Supreme Council for Medical Technologies and Physics” as an independent regulatory body comprising academics and practitioners.
