The Syrian Future Movement is pleased to continue documenting Syrian success stories that bring honor to the nation. These stories are published periodically on its website under the heading “Syrian Successes,” reflecting the movement’s belief that Syrian excellence on the international stage serves as a message of hope and confidence in the country’s future.

Syrian-American researcher Nora Ismail has been officially selected to receive the “Most Valuable Person” (MVP) Award for 2026 from the Arab America Foundation. This honor recognizes her outstanding volunteer work with the foundation since 2021, as well as her leadership role in supporting and empowering the Arab-American community and fostering connections within it.

The announcement was made in an official statement by the foundation. The award will be presented during the “Al Rabitah Gala” on Saturday, November 7, 2026, as part of the “CONNECT Empowerment Summit” held at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles hotel in Chantilly, Virginia.

Nora Ismail is a Syrian-American researcher specializing in international development. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Oxford, where her research focuses on professional migration opportunities for refugees, as well as the role of policies, institutions, and social networks in facilitating access to decent and sustainable employment for displaced persons. Prior to this, she served as Chief Program Officer at the organization Talent Beyond Boundaries, where she contributed to expanding the organization’s operations into 14 countries. In this role, she helped refugees of 26 different nationalities secure long-term employment opportunities, working in collaboration with various governments, the UNHCR, and other international partners.

She is also a co-founder of “Project Hilm,” where she serves as a lead researcher. Previously, she worked with the social finance team at Ashoka and served as a Kiva Fellow in Lebanon.

She holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from Columbia University and an MBA from the University of Oxford.

This is not the first time Noura Ismail has been recognized for her achievements. She was previously named to the Arab America Foundation’s “40 Under 40” list and honored as a “Global Innovator” at Expo 2020 Dubai—a testament to the capacity of Syrian professionals to combine academic excellence with impactful development work in the fields of humanitarian affairs, migration, and refugee issues.

It is worth noting that the “Most Valuable Person” (MVP) award is an honorary recognition presented by the Arab America Foundation—a U.S.-based non-profit organization dedicated to preserving Arab heritage and empowering the Arab-American community.

While it is not an official U.S. national award and does not typically carry a significant monetary prize, it holds great symbolic value and carries considerable prestige within the Arab-American community, serving as a tribute to voluntary service and community leadership.

This recognition serves as further proof that Syrians, wherever they may be, are capable of leaving a significant mark in the fields of science, development, and humanitarian work.

The story of Noura Ismail—from her academic research at Oxford to leading international programs that create employment opportunities for refugees and displaced persons—demonstrates that Syria’s true wealth lies in the minds and talents of its people, and in their ability to translate knowledge into tangible change in the lives of others.

In this light, the Syrian Future Movement asserts that restoring Syria’s pioneering role begins with serious investment in education and scientific research, fostering connections between the Syrian diaspora and their homeland, and promoting a culture of achievement, excellence, and community service.

When individual successes are brought together and channeled effectively, they become a collective driving force capable of rebuilding a new Syria—one founded on science, competence, and creativity.

While the Syrian Future Movement commends this honorable achievement, it hopes that such stories will serve as an inspiration to Syrian youth everywhere, and as an open invitation to invest in the promising potential of Syrians—who have proven, time and again, that they can make a difference whenever they are provided with the right opportunities and support.

A new Syria will be built by Syrian hands, minds, and efforts; these successes are the first seeds of a brighter and more prosperous tomorrow.
