The Syrian Future Movement views this statement as an embodiment of a genuine national awareness: that the events unfolding in the South are not merely a local matter, but rather an issue of sovereignty and territorial integrity that concerns every Syrian\u2014especially in light of the dangerous expansion of activities linked to the “Sofa 53” project throughout September and October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement acknowledges the call for peaceful demonstrations and protests across various Syrian governorates this coming Friday\u2014under the slogan “The Syrian South Is Not a Stage for Your Elections”\u2014as a civilized and legitimate expression of opposition to turning the issue of sovereignty into an electoral bargaining chip. It also serves as an act of solidarity with the people of Quneitra, who are currently facing killings, displacement, abductions, and attacks on their property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that the right to peaceful demonstration is guaranteed, and that the state has a duty to protect protesters. We urge that no party be permitted to exploit these gatherings to settle scores or incite internal tensions. Furthermore, we call upon all Syrians to support these demonstrations and participate in them. The Syrian Future Movement has been following the statements made by the U.S. Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq, Tom Barrack, during the Global Security Forum in Doha. In his remarks, Barrack called for an end to Israeli military strikes in Syria, emphasized Washington\u2019s interest in security arrangements, and praised President Ahmad al-Sharaa\u2019s willingness to reach a non-aggression pact\u2014a step that could potentially pave the way for the normalization of relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the Syrian Future Movement views this rhetoric\u2014despite its apparent positivity\u2014as inherently contradictory. It is inconsistent to call for an end to military strikes while simultaneously commending the victim of such aggression for their readiness to enter into a security agreement with the aggressor\u2014all while the aggression itself continues on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement maintains that conditioning the cessation of attacks on the conclusion of a “security agreement” constitutes an unequal trade-off. It effectively turns Syrian sovereignty into a subject of negotiation and rewards the aggressor by making the end of their aggression contingent upon the victim making security-related concessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement stresses that the cessation of military strikes must be an immediate and unconditional obligation\u2014mandated by international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement\u2014rather than a negotiable term within a security deal. Acting out of its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement makes the following recommendations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n First: The transitional government must fully assume its responsibilities regarding the southern region. It should go beyond mere diplomatic statements and work to establish a ceasefire as an unconditional first step. Furthermore, it must elevate the level of diplomatic representation in international forums to exert tangible pressure to halt “Sofa 53” [the ongoing Israeli military operation], while ensuring that the issue of sovereignty is not exploited as a bargaining chip for elections or negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Second: The international community\u2014Washington in particular\u2014must translate its rhetoric into action. Calls to cease hostilities are meaningless without an international monitoring mechanism to prevent Israel from continuing its violations. Such calls must be accompanied by effective pressure to compel an Israeli withdrawal from the areas into which its forces have advanced, rather than conditioning an end to the aggression on a “security agreement” with uncertain outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Third: National forces and civil society organizations must continue peaceful mobilization, maintaining an inclusive character that transcends political divisions. They must ensure that no party turns the issue of the south into an arena for internal conflict or a tool for partisan polarization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fourth: All parties must respect the right to peaceful demonstration and guarantee the protection of those participating in the upcoming Friday protests. Participants must not be harassed or arrested; peaceful expression of dissent is a constitutional right, not a threat to security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Syrian Future Movement reaffirms its full solidarity with the people of Quneitra and southern Syria, asserting that “Quneitra does not stand alone” and that any aggression against even an inch of Syrian territory is an attack on Syria as a whole. The Syrian Future Movement reiterates that sovereignty cannot be protected by statements, purchased through concessions, or restored by relying on promises from abroad. Rather, it is secured through a firm national will, a unified Arab stance, genuine international pressure, and unyielding popular resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For its part, the Syrian Future Movement will continue to support all efforts that strengthen Syria\u2019s sovereignty and unity.
