{"id":67478,"date":"2026-09-11T06:31:57","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T03:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sfuturem.org\/?p=67478"},"modified":"2026-09-11T06:34:35","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T03:34:35","slug":"the-syrian-future-movements-stance-on-current-events-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sfuturem.org\/en\/2026\/09\/the-syrian-future-movements-stance-on-current-events-in-syria\/","title":{"rendered":"The Syrian Future Movement&#8217;s Stance on Current Events in Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A video statement by the Head of the Syrian Future Movement,<br>Dr. Zaher Baadrani,<br>posted on his Facebook account:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1HRtxSK2XA\/\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share\/v\/1HRtxSK2XA\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ladies and gentlemen, fellow Syrians,<br>Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After a period of deliberate abstention from daily political commentary and the kind of engagement to which we accustomed you since the founding of the Syrian Future Movement in 2012\u2014and following extensive consultations within the Movement and with its cadres, as well as with national and political figures and forces from diverse backgrounds and governorates, and with Syrians both at home and abroad\u2014we deem it our duty today to clearly define our position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the fall of the Assad regime, we have afforded the new administration ample room for understanding and patience.<br>We took into account the scale of the ruin it inherited, the difficulties of the transitional phase, and the complexities of both domestic and foreign issues.<br>We continue to refrain from passing a definitive judgment\u2014whether negative or positive\u2014on an undertaking of this magnitude at this stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, at the same time, we remain closely attuned to the Syrian street.<br>We follow what people say and the realities they live through moment by moment; we distinguish between rumor and reality, between political rivalries and bickering, and between genuine grievances stemming from the core of people&#8217;s daily suffering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From this perspective, we believe that the starting point for corrective action must be to push for the formation of a national consensus government.<br>Not a government based on quotas or a mere facade of names, but rather a government of competence, expertise, integrity, and broad national representation. It should harness the expertise of Syrians at home and abroad, review past policies and unsuccessful appointments, restore the standing of institutions and the rule of law, and present Syrians with a clear program whose results can be measured and for which the government can be held accountable. I will post the priorities of this program in the comments section below this video to save time and allow for a detailed review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for the position of the Syrian Future Movement, we present it today to the Syrian people with absolute clarity.<br>We have received numerous invitations to join opposition-aligned frameworks, yet we declined them. This was not out of satisfaction with the current path, but because we believed the opportunity for course correction had not yet been exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, given the current Syrian landscape, we are closer to the opposition line today than at any time since the fall of the Assad regime\u2014though we are not announcing a formal shift to that camp at this moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will allow time for this correction until the next anniversary of the Assad regime&#8217;s fall\u2014not as an ultimatum imposed on the authorities, but as a natural political milestone to assess direction and outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>At that point, we will ask:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Has the institution regained its proper standing?<br>Has the influence of mediation and cronyism diminished?<br>Has the cost-of-living burden on citizens eased?<br>Has the management of funds and resources become more transparent?<br>Is it evident that Syria is transitioning from the post-Assad-regime authority to a state governed by the rule of law and institutions?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will also examine the official Syrian stance regarding the occupying Zionist entity and the extent to which it aligns with the sentiments of the Syrian public, as well as with the requirements of sovereignty and national interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At that juncture, the Syrian Future Movement will conduct a formal, comprehensive review and clearly define its political position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If we observe genuine, tangible correction, we will support every step that strengthens the state and safeguards Syria, while maintaining our full independence as a civil political movement. However, if current trends persist, the gap between the authorities and the people widens, and the remaining trust is exhausted without tangible change, we will consider the phase of patience to be over. Transitioning to a peaceful, organized national opposition will then become a serious and responsible option\u2014one we will present first to the members and cadres of the Syrian Future Movement, and then to our valiant Syrian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are not in confrontation with the State, nor will we ever be (for this is our State); yet, we will not conflate the State with the authorities.<br>From this point forward, we will not use the desire for stability as a pretext for silence, nor will we grant any government a blank check out of fear of the alternative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An opportunity that fails to yield change eventually becomes a burden on those who granted it; if errors go unchallenged for too long, they can harden into a reality that is difficult to rectify.<br>We bear a responsibility and are accountable to both our people and history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, we do not use the term &#8220;opposition&#8221; as a threat, nor do we view this step as an act of hostility toward the homeland.<br>Our benchmark is not proximity to or distance from the government, but rather the direction in which the State is taking shape today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We will continue to support every decision that strengthens Syria, and every step that builds institutions, protects citizens, and safeguards sovereignty. Conversely, we will oppose any practice that reproduces the very things Syrians paid a heavy price to leave behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The opportunity still exists, and it is
