The Syrian Future Movement strongly condemns the Israeli airstrikes that targeted Abu al-Duhur military airport in eastern Idlib countryside in the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in a blatant act of aggression against Syrian sovereignty and a direct threat to security and stability in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the unified Arab stance embodied in the condemnation of this aggression by the brotherly Arab states \u2013 Qatar, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Kuwait \u2013 and their absolute rejection of the repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty. It also commends their demand for the international community to take immediate action to deter Israel and halt its attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We also welcome the calls urging the international community to assume its responsibilities in deterring Israel and stopping its escalating violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement expresses its appreciation for the efforts led by Washington and Turkey to prevent escalation and contain the situation among the concerned parties, within the framework of their endeavor to maintain stability in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the Syrian Future Movement reiterates that condemning the aggression, while important, remains only a first step. The true test lies in translating these condemnations into concrete, deterrent measures that prevent the recurrence of such violations, compel Israel to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and contribute to achieving lasting stability in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement notes that targeting Abu al-Duhur Airport, located in an area experiencing security tensions, carries serious implications that extend beyond being an isolated military act:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n First: a blatant violation of national sovereignty. We point out that these raids constitute a flagrant attack on Syrian territory and a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, which criminalizes any military intervention in the sovereignty of states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We view this aggression as a systematic disregard for international resolutions, requiring a firm international stance to put an end to these repeated practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Second: This is a dangerous escalation that threatens the stability of the region. These raids come at a sensitive time for the region, amidst efforts to achieve stability and reconstruction in Syria. This makes them a blatant attempt to thwart these efforts and keep the region in a state of tension and instability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We warn that the continuation of these attacks could lead to dire security and military repercussions, threatening civil peace and further complicating the entire regional landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Third: This is a test of international conscience and the Arab stance. We emphasize that the widespread Arab condemnation of this aggression sends a clear message that the region will not remain silent in the face of Israeli violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We also call for translating these condemnations into concrete and effective action by taking action in international forums, activating deterrent mechanisms, and implementing practical steps to prevent the recurrence of these attacks and compel Israel to respect Syrian sovereignty and international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Based on its national responsibility, the Syrian Future Movement recommends the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Strengthening national resilience and internal unity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The necessity for all national forces to unite behind state institutions and stand together to confront external challenges, focusing on building the state and strengthening its sovereignty, enabling it to defend itself and deter any aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Effective Arab and international support, not just condemnation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Arab states and the international community must move from condemnation to action by taking practical, diplomatic, and legal steps to deter Israel, imposing sanctions on it, and holding it accountable for its repeated violations of international law. The Movement’s appreciation for the efforts led by Washington and Turkey to prevent escalation must be accompanied by clear guarantees to prevent the recurrence of these attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Strengthening Syrian defense capabilities:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Supporting the Syrian government’s efforts to develop its military and defense capabilities to ensure the protection of Syrian territory and deterrence against any future attacks, in coordination with allies and international partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Continued Regional and International Coordination:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Building upon existing coordination efforts, such as the talks in which Turkey participated to reactivate the deconfliction mechanism between Syria and Israel, and working to strengthen and expand it, in a way that contributes to reducing tension and ensuring stability on the border.
