The Syrian Future Movement is following with deep sorrow and condemnation the details of the heinous crime that claimed the life of 12-year-old Nour Muhannad al-Dous in the Daraa countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry of Justice has announced the formation of an urgent inspection committee to review all the facts and judicial and executive procedures related to the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Initial investigations revealed that the girl was killed three days before she was reported missing, after being severely beaten by her uncle, and that those involved planned to report her disappearance in order to cover up the crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, we believe that the crime against the child Nour is not merely an isolated incident, but rather the latest chapter in a structural crisis within the child protection system in Syria. This crisis necessitates a serious national response that goes beyond addressing the incident itself to a fundamental reform of policies, laws, and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Documented data reveals the scale of the tragedy endured by Syrian children. According to the Syrian Network for Human Rights report issued on the occasion of World Children’s Day 2025, the Network documented the killing of 30,686 children from March 2011 to November 20, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of the report’s publication, 5,359 children remain missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Network also documented the killing of 226 children under torture, while 7.5 million children in Syria are in need of humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These figures, which represent a portion of the legacy of fifteen years of systematic violations, underscore that protecting children in Syria is a paramount national imperative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Although Syrian legislation includes a large number of provisions protecting children’s rights, and Syria acceded to the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child, these provisions remain scattered across multiple laws. This makes it difficult to develop a comprehensive legal framework and complicates their practical implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
