The Syrian Future Movement affirms that investing in maternal and child health is the cornerstone of building a healthy and resilient Syrian society, coinciding with the launch of World Breastfeeding Week, which runs from August 1st to 7th, 2026, under this year’s UN-adopted theme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This occasion was launched following the “Innocenti Declaration” in 1990 and is supported annually by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF to protect and promote breastfeeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This week aims to raise awareness of the climatic, health, and economic benefits of breastfeeding, reduce child mortality rates, and promote proper nutrition as the child’s first line of immune defense. It is based on the values \u200b\u200bof solidarity, sustainable health, and the child’s right to safe nutrition without discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the long years of war and displacement, along with the repercussions of successive economic crises, have severely damaged the healthcare environment for mothers and children in Syria, making breastfeeding an existential necessity, not a luxury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement draws attention to alarming indicators that reveal the following dimensions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that malnutrition and low breastfeeding rates at this stage are causing serious future consequences, most notably increased rates of stunting among Syrian children under the age of five and increased pressure on the already strained healthcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Syrian Future Movement believes that protecting and securing the new generation must be a top priority for the transitional government, above all political considerations, as children’s health security is an integral part of comprehensive national security.
