The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the announcement made by Daraa Governor Anwar al-Zoubi on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, regarding the commencement of initial steps to establish a comprehensive industrial city in the al-Nujayh area, covering 1,000 hectares, coinciding with the rehabilitation of the old Daraa customs office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While we support this important development initiative, we see it as embodying the transitional authority’s vision of achieving balanced development across the governorates, a strategic investment in Daraa’s distinguished geographical location, and a qualitative shift from an agricultural governorate to a promising industrial and commercial hub. This is something we support, endorse, and advocate for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement commends this step, which comes after years of economic stagnation in the governorate and lays the foundation for a new phase of sustainable development based on diversifying income sources, attracting investments, and creating job opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We support the governor’s assertion that the city will be an “economic engine” for the governorate, and that its proximity to the Damascus-Daraa international highway gives it an exceptional competitive advantage and strengthens Daraa’s role as a gateway for trade with neighboring countries. We see this project, which coincides with the rehabilitation of the old Daraa customs office, as an embodiment of integration between economic sectors and an investment in the province’s strategic location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that establishing an industrial city in Daraa represents a qualitative leap in the economic development of the province, which has historically relied primarily on agriculture. We commend this initiative, which contributes to diversifying income sources, creating job opportunities for young people, reducing dependence on imports, boosting exports, improving services, and attracting investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We also see this step as part of ongoing efforts to bolster economic development, which have included \u20ac50 million in agricultural support for eastern Syria (launched on July 21, 2026) and the launch of the International Agriculture, Food, and Industry Exhibition in Damascus (launched on July 27, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
