The Syrian Future Movement is following with great interest the decision issued by the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Industry on Monday, July 27, 2026, to reconstitute the Syrian-Italian Business Council under Resolution No. (123), which aims to support economic partnerships and enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We see this as a reflection of the “New Syria” vision, which is based on economic openness, diversifying international partnerships, and attracting quality investments that contribute to driving development and reconstruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First: The Syrian Future Movement appreciates the reconstitution of the Syrian-Italian Business Council and commends the efforts exerted by the Ministry of Economy and Industry to modernize the structures of economic cooperation, considering it a practical step towards strengthening trade and investment exchange with Italy and restoring Syria’s role as an active economic partner in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement also commends this step, which ends the stagnation that has plagued economic cooperation between the two countries during the years of war. It establishes a permanent institutional framework for dialogue and consultation between businesspeople and investors from both sides. We support the decision stipulating that the Council is the sole authorized body to represent the Syrian side in economic relations with Italy. This strengthens its role as a vital platform for identifying promising investment opportunities, overcoming obstacles to trade, and enhancing cooperation in vital sectors such as renewable energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, and agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, we view the restructuring of the Council, following its initial formation last March under Resolution No. (62), as an indication of the government’s commitment to activating this economic instrument and its keenness to inject new blood into its leadership to make it more effective. Nihad Muhammad al-Hajj Saleh has been appointed Chairman of the Council, Firas Shamas and Mu’adh Tahmaz as Vice-Chairmen, Iyad Bitinjana as Secretary-General, and Mazen Bakhtiari as Executive Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Second: The Syrian Future Movement points to the strategic importance of economic cooperation with Italy, one of the largest European economies and a key trading partner for Syria. Activating this council constitutes an important step towards rebuilding economic relations with the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement notes that Italy has been and remains one of Syria’s important economic partners, and that activating the joint business council will contribute to opening new horizons for trade and attracting Italian investments to Syria, especially given the country’s urgent need for European expertise and technology in the fields of reconstruction, energy, and industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
