The accident resulted in the martyrdom of 35 people and the injury of 30 others, following a horrific collision between two buses, one carrying members of the Internal Security Forces and the other a civilian bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is a human tragedy that shakes the national conscience and reminds us that the price of neglecting road safety is lives lost and families bereaved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This painful incident is not the first, nor will it be the last, unless the state takes radical and urgent measures to address the structural and behavioral causes that turn our roads into mobile graveyards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First<\/strong>: The Syrian Future Movement expresses its deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the families of the victims, praying to God Almighty to have mercy on the martyrs, grant them paradise, and grant the injured a speedy recovery. The Syrian Future Movement, while acknowledging that a number of the victims were members of the Internal Security Forces who safeguard the nation’s security, highly appreciates the sacrifices made by security personnel in maintaining security and stability, and extends its deepest condolences to their families grieving this painful loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We also highly commend the swift efforts of the ambulance teams and relevant authorities, who rushed to the scene of the collision and began transporting the injured and evacuating the bodies of the victims. We also acknowledge the Ministry of Defense’s mobilization of its helicopters to participate in medical evacuations, the Minister of Higher Education’s directive to all university hospitals to raise their level of preparedness, and the Deir ez-Zor Health Directorate’s activation of its emergency plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Secondly<\/strong>, the Syrian Future Movement points out that this tragic incident is yet another link in a long chain of traffic disasters that are escalating year after year, placing road safety at the forefront of national challenges that demand immediate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The available statistics paint a disturbing picture of the scale of the silent catastrophe plaguing Syria’s roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Syrian Civil Defense reports, its teams responded to more than 3,000 traffic accidents in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In less than five months of 2025, 726 accidents were recorded, resulting in 46 deaths and 667 injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Statistics from the Ministry of Interior for 2024 indicate 1,442 accidents in the first quarter alone, with 85 deaths and 1,232 injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As for the ousted Assad regime, in 2024, in the areas it controlled alone, more than 8,000 traffic accidents were recorded, resulting in 358 deaths and 4,699 injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These shocking figures underscore that road safety is a national security issue and a shared national responsibility, requiring serious cooperation between state institutions and society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Third<\/strong>: The Syrian Future Movement analyzes the root causes of the worsening traffic accidents in Syria, based on an analytical study it published on its official website entitled “Road Safety in Syria” (dated September 18, 2025). This study revealed a complex crisis involving structural, behavioral, and institutional factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The study points to three main areas of risk:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Fourth: The Syrian Future Movement presents a set of urgent and strategic recommendations, stemming from its national responsibility and the analytical study it published on traffic safety:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Urgently develop road infrastructure: Rehabilitate vital roads, especially the Damascus-Deir ez-Zor highway, install smart traffic signals and safety barriers, and improve lighting and warning signs, in line with the Ministry of Transport’s commitment to implementing strategic road rehabilitation projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Strengthen traffic control and strictly enforce the law: Activate the role of traffic police, utilize surveillance cameras at intersections and on highways, and apply deterrent penalties to violators, particularly for speeding and dangerous overtaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Launch a comprehensive national traffic awareness campaign: Educational programs in schools and universities, and media campaigns via television, radio, and social media, to promote a culture of safe driving and adherence to traffic rules, and involve civil society in disseminating this culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Updating traffic safety legislation: Amending the traffic law to reflect current realities, mandating periodic and mandatory vehicle inspections, and regulating the issuance of driver’s licenses according to strict standards that include advanced theoretical and practical tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Supporting and equipping emergency teams: Training ambulance and civil defense teams, providing them with the necessary equipment for rapid response, and establishing emergency centers on highways to provide first aid to those injured in major accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its call to the Syrian government and all relevant authorities to prioritize traffic safety and address this issue with the utmost seriousness it deserves.
