The Human Rights Office of the Syrian Future Movement is following with profound sorrow and grief the horrific crime that claimed the life of two-and-a-half-year-old Farah Ammar al-Hamoud, who went missing in the town of Ghabaqib in Daraa Governorate. Her body was found inside a hay barn four days after her disappearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The forensic report confirmed that the cause of death was suffocation, and that death occurred within the first few days of her disappearance. This reveals a premeditated murder committed against a child completely incapable of defending herself, in one of the most shocking crimes to have shaken the Syrian conscience in recent times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that this crime is not only an attack on an innocent child, but also an attack on the right to life, on the system of human values, and on the trust that every child and every family should feel under the rule of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that protecting children is not merely a social issue, but a constitutional, legal, and moral responsibility incumbent upon the state and all its institutions. The success of the transitional phase is measured not only by the rebuilding of institutions, but also by their ability to protect the most vulnerable groups, especially children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement indicates that the initial findings legally classify this case as premeditated murder with aggravating circumstances, given the victim’s young age, the manner in which the crime was committed, the concealment of the body, and the indications of premeditation and attempts to tamper with evidence. This necessitates a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure that all those involved are held accountable under the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement also emphasizes that the Syrian Arab Republic has ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child and enacted Child Rights Law No. 21 of 2021, making child protection a national and international legal obligation, not merely a moral one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that this crime reveals the urgent need to review the child protection system in Syria, not only in terms of punishment, but also in terms of prevention, early response, and coordination among security, judicial, and social agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Movement also believes that this case represents a genuine opportunity to solidify confidence in the new Syrian judiciary through a professional and independent investigation and a fair and transparent trial that demonstrates that the rule of law is capable of protecting the vulnerable and that justice is not subject to any influence or considerations outside the framework of the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
