This day aims to raise public awareness about the health of the nervous system, the prevention of brain disorders (such as strokes, Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis), and to highlight structural gaps in specialized healthcare, particularly in conflict-affected and war-torn environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that protecting brain and neurological health is a fundamental pillar for human development and societal advancement. This assertion is based on recent medical reports issued by the World Health Organization for 2026, which indicate that neurological disorders have become the leading cause of disability globally, responsible for approximately 11% of the global disease burden. This necessitates the integration of neurological health into urgent humanitarian response plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the healthcare system in Syria suffers from a “severe structural deficit” in the field of neurology and neurosurgery. The years of war have led to the emigration of more than 70% of specialized medical personnel, in addition to the closure of over 45% of hospitals and specialized centers. This has deprived millions of Syrians, particularly those in displacement camps, of the diagnosis and treatment of chronic brain diseases and strokes, the rates of which have increased due to the ongoing stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the close link between repeated psychological trauma and neurological deterioration, based on recent neuroscience studies that confirm that continuous exposure to acute stress and war leads to atrophy in brain cells responsible for memory and learning (the hippocampus). This increases the incidence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and severe depression, conditions that now threaten more than 60% of children and youth in Syria, according to UN estimates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement links the issue of medical care to the international system through a civilized, ethical, and values-based approach. It believes that the right to advanced neurological treatment and access to life-saving specialized medications is a fundamental human right. The movement views the geographical blockade and the lack of international funding for the health sector in Syria\u2014which suffers from a deficit exceeding 55%\u2014as reflecting a moral decline in the international system’s commitment to protecting the human right to life and physical integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement is committed to working diligently to create the appropriate political and developmental conditions for a successful transitional phase. It asserts that building a “state of dignity and prosperity” requires formulating comprehensive national health policies that shift from a mindset of temporary first aid to one of building sustainable centers of medical excellence. This will attract expatriate medical professionals and ensure free neurological care for all citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
