The Syrian Future Movement follows with great interest and appreciation the announcement of a historic tribal reconciliation in Deir ez-Zor Governorate on Friday, July 17, 2026, between the Al-Wahibi and Al-Samaka clans of the Al-Kala\u2019i tribe. This reconciliation ended a conflict that had lasted for more than a century and resulted in the deaths of 14 people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This achievement is the culmination of intensive community and security efforts led by Muhammad Sharif Abu Mahmoud, Director of Public Relations at the Internal Security Command in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, with the participation of a number of tribal leaders and sheikhs. The negotiation process spanned more than 150 sessions, focusing on addressing the root causes of the conflict and mitigating its effects, thereby strengthening civil peace in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on the Syrian Future Movement’s methodology of “supporting national solutions without endorsing any party unconditionally, and criticizing what threatens the state-building process without antagonism,” the Movement issues this statement, considering this reconciliation a positive step towards overcoming the legacy of the past, strengthening social cohesion, and affirming that reconciliation and dialogue are the only way to build a stable future characterized by peace and justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First: The Syrian Future Movement values \u200b\u200bthis national achievement and commends the efforts exerted by the Internal Security Forces, tribal sheikhs, and community leaders to reach this agreement, considering it a model to be emulated in resolving tribal conflicts and a translation of the vision of “New Syria” based on reconciliation and tolerance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement also commends this step, which embodies a high level of societal awareness and an understanding that the continuation of tribal conflicts only serves the enemies of stability and hinders development and reconstruction efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, we support the role of the Internal Security Forces in facilitating this process and their demonstrated commitment to achieving civil peace, in addition to the role of the tribal leaders who demonstrated a spirit of national responsibility and transcended historical differences for the benefit of all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We also see this reconciliation as a practical application of the principle of “national reconciliation,” which we have long advocated as a fundamental pillar for building the new Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Secondly, the Syrian Future Movement notes that this reconciliation is part of broader efforts to end tribal conflicts in the region, which have encompassed several cities and towns, most notably Al-Bukamal, Al-Mayadin, Al-Ghabra, Subaykhan, and Sa’lu, where the flames of old and new feuds have been extinguished, some dating back many years, and others stemming from recent incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement observes that Deir ez-Zor Governorate, since the fall of the former regime, has witnessed a broad social movement to end the tribal and family conflicts that have accumulated over many years, resulting in killings and reciprocal revenge, leaving behind a deep social rift and a chasm that nearly threatened civil stability at any moment. We, in turn, value these ongoing efforts that contribute to extinguishing the flames of old and new vendettas, strengthen social cohesion, and pave the way for the return of normal life to the region, thus contributing to achieving sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
