Every year on June 18th, the international community observes the International Day Against Hate Speech, an official occasion established by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 75\/309.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This day aims to mobilize global efforts to combat the growing spread of hate speech, discrimination, and hostility online and in public spaces, and to entrench the values \u200b\u200bof tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and human rights as fundamental principles for global stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that dismantling hate speech and sectarian and regional incitement in Syria is a sovereign imperative and a cornerstone for protecting civil peace, ensuring the success of the transitional phase, and preventing society from reverting to violence and fragmentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement views with grave concern the indicators issued by the “Monitoring and Documentation of Violations in Syria” center and the 2026 human rights reports, which indicate that more than 65% of the content directed at Syrians on social media platforms during critical periods contains exclusionary or inflammatory language. This demonstrates that the digital space continues to be exploited as a platform for deepening national divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement places great credibility in the warnings issued by the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission on Syria, which has confirmed in its successive reports that systematic hate speech was the primary driver of crimes against humanity and forced displacement. This means that confronting this discourse and holding its perpetrators accountable is an integral part of the comprehensive transitional justice process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that the current transitional phase represents a “historic opportunity” to redefine a unified Syrian national identity. Courageous nations do not build their future on settling scores and harboring grudges, but rather on consensus, acceptance of pluralism, and upholding the rule of law above any sectarian or factional considerations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement presents a set of recommendations addressed to all actors involved in shaping the Syrian landscape:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n To the Transitional Government:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Expedite the enactment of strict laws criminalizing hate speech, incitement to violence, and sectarian or ethnic discrimination, while protecting constructive freedom of expression and ensuring that these laws are not exploited to suppress freedoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Link national reconciliation committees to clear judicial and social programs that work to restore rights and heal societal rifts as an alternative to rhetoric of revenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To the official and private media:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Adopt a genuine and effective national media code of ethics that adheres to professionalism and objectivity, and avoids the use of exclusionary terminology or language based on accusations of treason and ideological demonization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Intensify dialogue programs that highlight the unifying Syrian identity and shared history to promote the values \u200b\u200bof civil peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To the virtual world and content creators (digital platforms):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Urge influential activists and Syrian tech organizations to launch counter-campaigns (such as the hashtag #SyriansAgainstHate) and activate digital reporting tools to combat fake accounts and online trolls that fuel discord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To civil society organizations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Design workshops and awareness campaigns targeting youth and adolescents to train them in critical thinking skills, verifying fake news, and resisting inflammatory rumors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To Syrian society in general:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Be fully aware that the strength of Syria’s future lies in its diversity, that tolerance is not weakness but rather the courage of the strong, and rely on the values \u200b\u200bof neighborliness and genuine Syrian solidarity to reject any discourse that seeks to divide the people of the same nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The International Day Against Hate Speech brings together global efforts to counter hostility and promote human rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":35,"featured_media":65012,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4688],"tags":[4763],"class_list":["post-65014","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-presidency-office-en","tag-congratulations-and-events"],"yoast_head":"\n
