The Syrian Future Movement believes that commemorating the “International Day of Missing Children” on May 25th of each year is a moral, humanitarian, and political imperative that compels us to confront one of the most complex and painful legacies of the bitter conflict that has ravaged our homeland, Syria, over the past years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the symbolic and historical value of this day, which dates back to 1983 when it was first declared in response to the disappearance of the child Eitan Patz in New York in 1979. It evolved globally in 2001, becoming an international day, symbolized by the forget-me-not flower, a symbol of the enduring hope for the return of every child to their family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, we embrace this value, making it a national pledge that we will never forget a single Syrian child who has been taken from their family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement recalls the shocking statistical indicators, both locally and internationally; UN and human rights reports indicate that hundreds of thousands of children disappear annually worldwide for various reasons, including human trafficking and illegal migration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Syria, however, the catastrophe reaches dimensions that amount to crimes against humanity. Documentation from the Syrian Network for Human Rights and international organizations indicates that at least 3,700 Syrian children have been subjected to systematic abduction and enforced disappearance during the years of conflict. These children have been exploited, forcibly separated from their families, and some transferred to care centers and orphanages run by complex networks. The aim is to extort their families politically and financially, representing a deep wound in the fabric of Syrian national identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement believes that protecting children and restoring their stolen rights is the cornerstone without which no new social contract can be formulated. Our missing children are not merely numbers in human rights files; they are the truncated future of Syria, a future that must be restored and rebuilt to guide our hoped-for tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes that the current transitional phase in Syria demands national courage and a firm, responsible political will. The first steps toward transitional justice and building trust in the new Syria begin after all prisons are opened and reorganized, revealing the fates of the forcibly disappeared, dismantling the systems that caused the dispersal of families, and supporting national and international investigative committees to identify children who have spent years in detention or care centers, to the point of forgetting their names and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement views the future with hope and action, believing that building a new, pluralistic Syria necessarily depends on establishing a “Supreme National Commission for Missing Persons and the Guarantee of Children’s Rights,” relying on a sophisticated genetic and digital database in cooperation with international organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
