The Syrian Future Movement has closely monitored the calls circulating on social media platforms to organize a sit-in next Friday, April 17, in the capital, Damascus, under slogans related to public services and living conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement affirms that while it appreciates the spirit of popular initiative and the legitimate aspiration to improve living conditions and public services, after careful consideration of the nature of the calls and the parties organizing them, it has decided to urge its members and affiliates not to participate in this sit-in, for the following reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First: The Syrian Future Movement observes the presence of political entities attempting to gain prominence through this sit-in and exploit it to serve their own agendas, particularly those aimed at opposing the transitional authority and undermining its legitimacy. This would transform the sit-in from a genuine popular movement into a platform for settling political scores that does not serve the true demands of the citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Second: The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the necessity for any popular sit-in to remain purely grassroots, free from any political manipulation or exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We fear that politicizing this movement will cause it to lose sight of its fundamental service and livelihood objectives, which should be the focus of its call, and will prevent the achievement of the anticipated positive results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the context of its national stance, the Syrian Future Movement affirms two essential points that must be considered in any popular activity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First: Protecting the public safety of demonstrators during any sit-in, and vice versa, and presenting a positive image of the post-Assad era, demonstrating the maturity of the Syrian people and their capacity for peaceful, civil expression, far removed from chaos or clashes with the institutions of the transitional state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Second: Maintaining the civilized and civic character of the sit-in and ensuring that it is not infiltrated by any parties that might incite violence or hatred or overstep the bounds of the law. The new Syria is built on mutual respect and dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement reiterates its support for every peaceful movement that expresses the legitimate demands of the people, and considers it the natural and only alternative to the path of violence that has exhausted the country and its people. We also believe that calm dialogue and institutional understanding are the most effective ways to resolve problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this context, the Syrian Future Movement calls for strengthening the role of national political parties as a civilized mediator between the government and society. This would allow for positive and productive interaction, providing an alternative to the people conveying their demands to the government through street protests.
