The Syrian Future Movement strongly condemns the flagrant violation of the right to life that led to the death of citizen Yahya K. as a result of systematic torture at the al-Kallasa police station in Aleppo on April 12, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We emphasize that this crime constitutes a blatant violation of Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, both of which prohibit torture and all forms of cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement acknowledges with appreciation the position of the Governor of Aleppo and his direct commitment to prosecuting the perpetrators. It welcomes the decision to arrest the officers involved and refer them to the judiciary, and we consider this official response a necessary step to break the culture of impunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, we stress that mere individual disciplinary measures are insufficient to guarantee that such tragedies will not recur unless they are accompanied by comprehensive legislative and institutional reform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement bases its position on updated international human rights statistics for 2025, which indicate that countries that have adopted mandatory visual documentation systems in detention centers have seen a decrease in torture claims of up to 75%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Accordingly, the Syrian Future Movement calls for the adoption of a digital monitoring strategy through the mandatory installation of audio and video CCTV systems in all interrogation rooms, technically linked to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which oversees detention facilities, to ensure effective preventative monitoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement emphasizes the need to align national laws with the Istanbul Protocol for effective investigations into torture. It also calls for activating the role of the investigating judge in conducting periodic and unannounced inspections and granting Syrian bar associations an advisory and oversight role within detention centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We believe that protecting rights and freedoms in the future Syria requires a shift from the doctrine of “security above the law” to the doctrine of “security in service of citizenship,” where security institutions are fully subject to judicial accountability and technical transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Syrian Future Movement declares its commitment to pursuing this case as an open human rights file, and demands that the authorities make the results of the investigation public and guarantee compensation for the victim’s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
