The Syrian Future Movement celebrates International Mountain Day today, December 11th, a global occasion to highlight the importance of mountains as an environmental, economic, and cultural resource, and as a guarantee of the sustainability of life on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Syrian Future Movement notes that Syria is distinguished by its strategic mountains, which have played and continue to play a pivotal role in its history and national security. Among the most prominent are:
1- The Coastal Mountain Range (Latakia-Tartous), which provides rich vegetation and fresh water, and forms a hub for agriculture and ecotourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2- The Qalamoun Mountains (Rural Damascus), which are a major water source, a haven for biodiversity, and an important center for sustainable rural development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3- The Sham Mountains\/Southern Region (Daraa-Sweida), which represent a base for traditional agriculture and are home to indigenous mountain communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4- The Aleppo Countryside Mountain Range, which comprises strategic forest and dam areas and provides significant potential for energy and water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Syrian Future Movement believes that celebrating International Mountain Day should translate into practical national strategies for preserving these resources, including:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Sustainable environmental protection: Conserving forests, groundwater, and biodiversity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Developing mountain communities: Supporting local populations with sustainable economic projects, education, and healthcare to ensure a dignified life in their regions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Promoting scientific research: Utilizing geological and environmental studies to manage mountain resources efficiently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
