As part of its efforts to strengthen ties with academic and religious institutions, a delegation from the Syrian Future Movement, headed by its president, Dr. Zaher Badran, visited the Faculty of Sharia at Damascus University, where they were received by the Dean, Dr. Imad al-Din al-Rashid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting addressed key moments in the faculty’s long history and the role of its early pioneers in establishing a moderate and balanced approach to Islamic thought. Dr. al-Rashid noted that the faculty’s leadership throughout its history has been rooted in two main schools of thought: the Damascene Salafist tradition and Sufism, which has contributed to shaping a balanced Islamic coexistence within Syrian society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For his part, Dr. Badran emphasized the pivotal role of the Faculty of Sharia in producing and developing moderate Sunni Islamic thought, particularly during this delicate transitional phase in Syria, which necessitates a rational religious discourse that contributes to building social and national stability. He also emphasized that the college’s role is not limited to graduating academics, but extends to preparing preachers, directors of religious research centers, and professors of Islamic education in various governorates, as well as personnel working in the Sharia judiciary. This reinforces the necessity of integrating the roles of the College of Sharia, the Ministry of Religious Endowments, and the Fatwa Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
