Syrian Future Movement I followed very carefully the statements made by the head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, Mr. Ashhad al-Salibi, in which he announced the change of the name of the “Civil Aviation Corporation” to the “Civil Aviation Authority” and its direct reporting to the President of the Republic, in addition to talking about future plans to expand the Syrian air fleet and build new airports in Damascus, Aleppo, and the central region. <\/p>\n\n
Syrian Future Movement While expressing his interest in developing the aviation sector as part of the country’s vital infrastructure, he expresses his concern and surprise at the decision to subordinate the authority directly to the presidency, which raises serious questions about the nature of institutional governance, the separation of powers, and ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of the air transportation sector. <\/p>\n\n
Syrian Future Movement The model adopted in the majority of democratic and developed countries, and even in many Arab countries, enshrines the independence of civil aviation authorities from the head of the executive authority, so that these authorities are managed either through ministries of transport or through independent institutions subject to parliamentary or administrative oversight to ensure impartiality and compliance with international civil aviation standards approved by the ICAO, instead of perpetuating excessive centralization and dependence of technical bodies on the presidential office! <\/p>\n\n
