Syrian Future Movement It follows with great interest the course of justice in Turkey, and welcomes the verdict issued by the High Criminal Court in Hatay province on June 27, 2025, which sentenced four Turkish gendarmes to life imprisonment after they were convicted of torturing and killing Syrian refugees at a border post in the Reyhanli region in March 2023. <\/p>\n\n
Syrian Future Movement This ruling is a positive judicial precedent in Turkey and constitutes an important step towards establishing the principle of accountability, and sends a clear message that violations against refugees will not go unpunished, regardless of the identity of the perpetrators. We highly value the tireless efforts made by Turkish and Syrian lawyers and human rights activists, especially the Syrian human rights defender “Taha Ghazi,” who played a pivotal role in documenting the crime and following its judicial process, despite the subsequent revocation of his Turkish citizenship and his deportation to Syria because of his human rights activities. <\/p>\n\n
Syrian Future Movement While commending this judicial development, we emphasize the importance of strengthening human rights and judicial cooperation between Turkey and Syria in the future, in order to serve justice and human dignity, and to restore the historic neighborly relations that must be built on mutual respect and the rule of law. <\/p>\n\n
Syrian Future Movement Calls for continued investigation of all violations suffered by Syrian refugees in detention and deportation centers, ensuring that such crimes are not repeated, and working to provide a legal and humanitarian environment that preserves the rights and dignity of refugees. <\/p>\n\n
